The Impossible

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” –Francis of Assisi
So true……

Well after 2 biopsy’s; diagnosis of terminal cancer; surgery to remove my left lung with a 1 in 20 chance of death; 4 gruelling Chemo sessions; the day is about to arrive that I thought at many times was the impossible ……I start back at work tomorrow on a phased return!!

Thanks for kindly asking how I am progressing ….Over the summer I have rested, concentrated on my fitness, my diet and creating those special memories! I still struggle with fatigue, tiredness and breathlessness, but it is improving and I feel confident enough to know when my body is telling me to rest. Therefore I now feel ready to return to work. It will be on a phased return building up my hours over the next 6-8 weeks.

This would not be possible without the support of all the nurses, doctors, surgeons, work, family, friends and most importantly Ali, Joshua & Erin. The love and support I have received from every single one of you has helped me, inspired me & made me so determined to do everything possible to get where I am today. As many of you have said “You have an army of people with you ‘Dave'”. Well, Ali & I have certainly felt it. You have well and truly surrounded us all with an abundance of love & support.

Going back to work is the final big step to getting close to as normal as possible for me & us as a family. We don’t know how my body will react, but I will do all I can to make sure I listen to what my body is telling me, and to do what’s right. We know there will be further challenges ahead when it returns, but if we can get through the last 11 months like we have with all your help & support, we remain strong and positive to what may lie ahead.

From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all.

Lots of love
Dave & Ali xx

  2. Hi Dave,
Glad you are progressing well and moving on to the next grace of a phased return to work. I bet you’re looking forward to Xmas – under two months away! What a good change from last year.
Take care and my best to you and your family.
